Mahangate is situated 45km south of the Bazaruto Archipelago, its remote location can only be reached by 4x4 or light aircraft. The design for Mahangate was not informed by any stylistic considerations, but was developed to suit local craftsmanship and materials. The majority of materials is manufactured, harvested or quarried in-situ.
